For One More Day

For One More Day
Mitch Albom
Fiction

This book is for the type of reader that likes a short, easy to read, engaging fictional book. For One More Day is the story of Chick Benetto; a former major league baseball player that has numerous problems with his family and career. Chick decides to commit suicide, but after failing to even kill himself he discovers his mother at his old home, who had died eight years ago. He goes on to spend one last day with his “dead” mother, and Chick ends up learning about all the things he never knew about his life from his mom. Chick’s life is forever changed after that day. This book explores what one might do if they had the opportunity to spend one more day with a dead relative. Most of the story takes place at Pepperville Beach, home of Chick’s childhood. Throughout the book Chick endures many struggles, mostly internal feelings such as guilt and self-loathing.

In one book review of For One More Day the reviewer believes that the book is “not especially memorable,” but I could not disagree more. I think that this book is one of those books that you will remember for a long time. After reading this book you will look at your family in a completely different way. However, I agree with the reviewer that this book is an easy, quick to read book. Even though For One More Day is only around 200 pages it will definitely be worth it. I partially agree with the reviewer that the book is a bit sentimental at times, but it is still worth the read. I give this book a 9 because of how engaging and quick to read it was. Once I started reading I did not want to stop. If you read this book you will find out that this is a book that you will not want to put down.
